It was the turbulent 1970s era when Maurice Hunter and Walter Robinson were a dynamic duo who took the tennis world by storm with skill, humor and sheer intention. As teenagers, the pair set off on a vortex of tennis tournaments across the country, armed with nothing but their tennis rackets, a shared dream, and a remarkable ability to turn bad breaks into memorable exploits.

With some good luck and a few miraculous administrative lifelines, the duo sometime gained entry and invitations into key tournaments, much to the astonishment of the sport’s good ole boys’ elite players. Maurice strategically masterminded and dissected opponents’ play tactics and disarmed them with mercurial speed. Together, Maurice and Walter left a trail of astonished top-seeded players and a baffled tennis establishment in their wake.

Yet, despite their impressive feats, fate proved to have a mischievous streak. Tournament records went missing or were overlooked, and Hunter and Robinson’s tennis achievements seemed destined for obscurity. But the pair laughed it off, philosophizing that their prowess in the sport held just a mysterious or obscured angst that others used as tactics to undermine them.
